Over a decade ago, Sandeep Anirudhan stepped out of conventional life to dedicate himself fully to volunteering for the betterment of society and the planet. Since then, his personal and public life have embodied the principles of minimalism, gift economy, and community engagement. Inspired by both the Constitution of India and Gandhiji’s Hind Swaraj, Sandeep works to promote conscious living and participatory democracy in everyday life. 

He has founded, co-founded, convened, nurtured several citizen-led communities that catalyse awareness and collective action across diverse domains, such as Sustainability and Regeneration, Water Security, Urban Planning & Governance, Citizen Participation & Grassroots Democracy, Sustainable Mobility, Natural Farming, Climate Action & Conservation.  

His Urban Citizenship Initiatives include:  Bengaluru Town Hall, Citizens’ Agenda for Bengaluru, Namma Whitefield, Bengaluru Mobility, Swaraj for Cities, Whitefield Wards, etc.,

His Earth Citizenship Initiatives include: Aikyam Community for Sustainable Living, Coalition for Water Security, Green Tweet Army, Save Pattandur Agrahara Lake, The Natural Farming movement, etc.,

In the process of running campaigns for administrative reforms, transparency, and ensuring the rule of law, he regularly faces resistance from vested interests, who keep filing false police cases and legal cases against him in an attempt to intimidate him and also to distract him - by forcing him to get legal assistance to face these challenges.

Sandeep lives a minimalist life and does not maintain personal savings, wealth, or a conventional income. He devotes his time entirely to social work and public causes.  Fortunately, so far he does not incur rent or major living expenses.
